August 13, 2007 (Madison, Wis.) – The Wisconsin Builders Association® (WBA) announced today the endorsement of Green Built Home™ (GBH) as the recognized "green" standard for new home or remodeling construction.  WBA selected Green Built Home™ because the voluntary program offers WBA member builders and remodelers the most flexibility toward building environmentally sound projects.
The WBA endorsement of the Green Built Home™ program finally identifies a statewide green building standard for consumers and builders to achieve.  "Consumers and builders now have a definitive check list of what constitutes a green building," said Bill Wendle, Executive Vice President of the Wisconsin Builders Association.  "Our builders were faced with a challenge.  Customers would request green building practices, yet both the builder and customer struggled to identify exactly what 'shade of green' to follow.  Now Wisconsin consumers and builders have a straight-forward standard to follow.  We can all agree now what 'green' actually is when it comes to building or remodeling a home – without costly certification."
Green Built Home™ began in 1999 and certified approximately 30 homes that first year.  Since then more than 2200 homes have been certified statewide. "Green Built Home is a great program," said Wendle.  "The program was recently named Program of the Year at the National Green Building Awards.  We're excited to endorse the program.  Our builders and remodelers can now offer their customers a comprehensive standard to 'build green' which is an increasing request from customers who are concerned about impacting the environment."
WBA members approved the GBH endorsement based on the program's unique scoring system to certify a new home or remodeling project through a combination of mandatory requirements and "options" for the builder and home owner to select based on budget and priorities.  The GBH system was also endorsed by WBA because it takes into account Wisconsin building practices and participation in the program is not cost prohibitive for the builder or the home owner.
The Wisconsin Builders Association®, which consists of 24 local associations, is an organization of more than 9,000 members committed to preserving and promoting the American dream of home ownership by working for quality, safe and affordable housing in Wisconsin.
