Why Home Modification?
Home modification (changing the environment to support safety, independence, and health) plays a critical role in older adults' ability to age in their homes and avoid institutional settings. Ranging from handrails to roll-in showers, these features support daily activities, prevent falls, and decrease caregiver injury rates.

Who Should Take HOMES? Professionals from four sectors:

  • Housing (remodelers, contractors, handymen, architects, service coordinators)
  • Disability (centers for independent living, rehabilitation centers)
  • Aging (senior centers, area agencies on aging, case managers)

Health Care (nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists, home care workers)

What Takes Place?
The Pilot Program consists of five 2-week online courses with Wisconsin-specific content:

  • Course 1 - The Basics and Beyond
  • Course 2 - How to Get It Done
  • Course 3 - Funding Sources and Financing Mechanisms
  • Course 4 - Raising Community Awareness and Coalition Building
  • Course 5 - The Ethics of Home Modification

Spend approximately 4 hrs/wk accessing lectures and interfacing with colleagues! Assignments can be directly applied to your work while earning 54 hours of class time for CEUs! This in-depth program is offered to you for $500-a reduced rate for Pilot Program students!
