Building a vacation retreat on family farmland in the hills of La Valle, Wisconsin, was a dream come true for the owners of this Log style home. The 4,260 square foot design honors the breathtaking views and is a modern take on a traditional, rustic aesthetic. Natural elements include barnboard, stone, Pine tongue and groove walls and ceilings, half log steps, full log posts and railings, rustic timber ceiling beams, and a live edge countertop. A large window wall is the focal point of the open first floor plan, which also contains the primary suite, a half bathroom and the laundry room and wraparound deck. Three additional bedrooms suites are split between the second and lower levels. The bar and entertainment space is accessible from the patio, which has stamped and colored concrete stairs. Other highlights include Butternut Brown log siding, custom Alder Amish cabinetry and granite countertops.

This Modern home in the woods was designed with a seamless and clean feel in mind. The First Floor features an open concept living space, hidden butlers pantry with a passing window to the adjacent 4-seasons room, and a large custom chevron pocket door that guides you to the Master Suite. Chevron ceiling panel details can be found in the 4-seasons room as well as across the Foyer. Large porcelain slabs are installed on the fireplace surround as well as the Kitchen backsplash to carry the seamless feel. The custom metal stairway with solid wood treads will take you up to the open loft office on the 2nd floor with 2 bedrooms and a bathroom for guests. The garage features built-in cabinetry and a custom tile dog-wash station.

This custom built, 4,800 square foot modern style home, designed by River Architects, is nestled in the trees outside of La Crosse.
On the main level, 2,400 square feet of warm, inviting living space includes an open concept entry, dining area, living area, butcher block topped breakfast bar, kitchen, and a cozy reading nook. A double-sided fireplace surrounded in custom cabinetry separates the dining and living areas without walling it off completely. Floor to ceiling windows with hidden powered blinds allow for a stunning view of the valley. In floor heat warms the gorgeous black locust wood flooring. Smart technology implements lighting and sound scenes for the mood of the owners. It also features solid white oak rift sawn doors and cabinets, a pegboard wall off the garage entry, a floating steel stairway, a 6x4 foot custom stained glass door, a wraparound deck on the back with IPE decking and stainless steel railing. Three bedrooms, a workout room, a music room, a family room, an office, and two and half baths complete this home.

Decorative details such as overhead beams, wainscot paneling, stone wrapped two-sided fireplace and an elegant custom staircase provide interest and continuity throughout. The home includes a gourmet kitchen with Wolf/SubZero appliances, extensive storage with Butler’s pantry, walk-in pantry, and custom wine room. The vaulted primary bedroom has two walk-in closets and a spa-like bathroom complete with heated floors, tiled shower with Kohler fixtures, and three vanity spaces. The screen porch with fireplace extends the outdoor season and makes the perfect place to entertain in warmer months.

This lake cabin was built on Round Lake in Hayward, Wisconsin by Sjostrom Construction, Inc.
The cabin has 2600 square foot with a final cost of $1.7 million. This building project had a lot of high end unique products throughout. The 12 x 12 Reclaimed Hardwood Timbers and the 1 x 12 fir siding came from the state of Virginia. All of the stone for the fireplaces, walls and the rock patios came out of a rock quarry in the state of Montana. The lakeside view displays 3 multi slide Lowen door’s from Canada. With the door in the great room being automated, 20 feet long and 9 feet tall with 4 panels retractable in the wall.
We don’t share pictures of the inside of the cabin’s we build, but the inside is just as cool as the outside. with custom built fireplaces, lighted cambria countertops, oak hardwood flooring, barnwood, reclaimed wood Beams, automated window shades and wolf appliances. It was a fun cabin to build and something the Sjostrom Construction team is very proud of.
