The goal of this $265,000 living room addition was to create a modern space with sophisticated, clean lines and be a focal point to showcase the value of the home and its ideal location. Working with Cocobello Interiors, we removed the roof and built new twelve-foot-tall walls with nearly floor to ceiling windows. A fourteen-foot-wide Andersen folding door with a retractable screen was added to the patio wall to allow for a seamless connection to the spacious deck and fire table, making it a perfect space for entertaining. To create a focal point, we installed a threesided modern fireplace that is accompanied by floating benches and surrounded by Glacier White Dekton. To cap off the Dekton, we worked with Forest Products Supply to build a rich, dark stained walnut mantle surround that transitions to a soft white as it extends the length of the ceiling. To add dimension to the room’s new height and conceal the color changing LED lighting, the coffered ceiling is designed with three bays and detailed molding on the multifaceted beams.

The goal of this project was to increase the living space to this single story cottage. Zoning regulations prevented changing the footprint of the existing structure. To overcome this challenge, we designed a second story addition to the cottage, transforming it to a spacious home with endless views of Lake Michigan. During the transformation process the main floor ceiling was left in place to preserve the previously remodeled main floor. Scheduling was crucial as we could not expose the existing finishes to potential severe weather conditions. When weather conditions permitted, we had 4 four days to remove the roof, frame the new floor, install mechanicals in the floor system from above, frame the second floor walls and the new roof system making before the next weather event arrived. This addition was completed with a custom tile shower with glass enclosure, custom cabinets with a quartz countertop in the bathroom, luxury vinyl flooring throughout the addition, and expansive windows.

This room addition project takes a bland patio area through a transformation into a beautiful new screened porch and deck area. Between the scorching afternoon sun, bugs, and rainy/cold weather, the old patio was rarely used. The new addition now gives the homeowners a place to kick back, relax and enjoy the beautiful wooded views behind their home without issue.

The wide expanse screen provides unobstructed views and protects them from the pesky mosquitos, the new skylights bring in natural light, and the fireplace extends its use further into the spring and fall.

As with all of our projects we strive to make any addition look like it has always been a part of the home. We love how this project turned out and looking at the home now, one would have a hard time knowing there was ever an addition and that the home wasn’t built like this from the beginning.

Owner’s goal was to add a sunroom to the backside of the home. Considering the ample backyard available, Mike Howe Builders designed a 360 square foot, 4-seasons sunroom as an extension off of the great room connected with glass French doors. Features of the sunroom include floor to ceiling windows on 3 sides, natural light, a fireplace, wood beam accents, in-floor radiant heating and LVP flooring. The build-out was perfectly matched to the existing house, as if it were always there. The family loves it and now spends the lion’s share of their time enjoying the sunroom.
