Statewide New Home Permits Increase Twenty Two Percent
Quarter three numbers significantly increase over quarter two
October 29, 2020 – The latest single-housing permit numbers show that homebuilding has significantly increased in quarter three compared to quarter two.
The data, compiled by information required to be submitted by municipalities to the Department of Safety and Professional Services, shows 3,825 permits were issued across the state in the third quarter of 2020 compared to 3,155 in the second quarter.
“Homebuilding permits are up twenty two percent in quarter three compared to quarter two,” said Wisconsin Builders Association (WBA) Executive Director Brad Boycks. “During a time when so many industries are experiencing significant hardship, we are thankful the construction sector, specifically homebuilding, has continued to remain strong.”
Year-to-date numbers are also encouraging. Between January and September of 2019, 7,841 permits were issued across the state, while 8,899 permits were issued between the same period of this year, an increase of 13 percent.
Other encouraging numbers released by the Department of Administration includes the numbers of plats and lots approved through September of 2020; 152 and 4,340, respectively.
“Even though we are seeing significant delays in time and supplies, we continue to see healthy homebuilding numbers,” said WBA President Jeff Dorner. “We are thrilled at the strong numbers this last quarter and are hopeful it sustains through the end of the year.”
